Men's Services

01 Benefits | 02 Process | 03 Deforestation

“In 2009, Loretta Wilson, owner of the Just for You Salon & Spa in Tempe, Arizona told Esquire Magazine that women actually LIKE their men waxed, and are specifically repelled by a hairy chest. A “guy with hair just looks like an ape,” she said… At Maureen’s Waxing Studio, we offer male waxing services including leg, arm, underarm, shoulders, chest, neck, with back and eyebrow being our most popular.

01 | BENEFITS

When you think of this term, the word “metrosexual” probably also pops into your brain. We’re guessing this is a big reason why you (or your guy) have not manned-up and starting paying more attention to your unwanted body hair yet…But when you think of Jay-Z and P Diddy, do you think “metrosexual?” Okay… Maybe P Diddy, but the point is that today men who “manscape,” or wax, trim, and groom unwanted body hair, are not “metro,” but are actually preferred by most women. …Besides appearing more attractive to the ladies, male waxing benefits include the improvement of muscle definition.

The prevention of razor burn and replaces hard stubble regrowth (pay attention all you arm-shavers… You know who you are!) with finer, smoother hair giving you suave skin for much longer. It can also help to improve the performance of athletes and swimmers, as well as your performance in bed by making you look bigger and increasing sensitivity during sex (you know you were wondering).

Effects
- Waxing improves muscle definition
- Waxing is a long-lasting method

- Prevention of razor burn

02 | PROCESS

Waxing works the same way for men as it does for women (of course, there is a little more involvement/handling on your part for the Guyzillian, but that’s a whole ‘nother blog). A thin layer of hot wax is applied to the area, is topped with a fabric strip and yanked off in the direction opposite hair growth. Reminder: Women have been doing this since Ancient Egypt, and have survived just fine from a little pain.

Effects

- Makes the body slenderer and the figure more beautiful
- Effectively reduces cellulite problems
- Cleanses body of waste substances, repairs blood/lymphatic circulation
- Makes the skin smoother, more elastic, softer and revitalises dry skin
- Reduces muscular and joint pains
- Relaxes, refreshes and gives a wonderful feeling
- Reduces fatigue and stress

03 | DEFORESTATION

They skulk in, alone or dragged by their wives or girlfriends — follicularly endowed fellows seeking a drastic solution to their body hair hang-ups: waxing. The spa for men has seen a surge over the past two years in the number of clients willing to subject their skin to those strips of white muslin all in the name of confidence — on the beach and in bed. Backs, shoulders, chests, brows and (gulp) nethers are increasingly fair game for de-furring. (Or “manscaping,” as Queer Eye for the Straight Guy’s Fab Five call it.)

Forget the tufted torsos epitomized by heretofore hunks like Burt Reynolds and Tom Selleck — they’ve gone the way of the gold medallion necklace. Having too much body hair is akin to having too little head hair, says Stan Williams, fashion and grooming director of Maxim magazine. “A lot of guys are concerned about it, but it’s not something you really talk about.” Waxing makes up 10% to 20% of the business at Maureens Waxing Studio. “Men are just becoming a lot more conscious of what their body looks like, they realize they don’t need to go around looking like the missing link anymore.” says Maureen, owner of Maureens Waxing Studio.
